A   WAY   OF   LIFE

Chinese calligraphy spelling out "Bending Bamboo Wing Chun"

Authentic Wing Chun Kung Fu for self-defense and growth of mind, body & spirit to foster the enrichment of life for both self and others.

MORE THAN A MARTIAL ART

At Bending Bamboo, Wing Chun is more than self-defense. It is a practice for learning how to make life more beautiful, live life more fully and protect it should it ever be threatened. Through training, we strengthen the body, discipline the mind, and cultivate the spirit—developing skills that serve us not only in moments of danger, but in our journeys through everyday life.

THE THREE PILLARS TO A HAPPY LIFE

Mental, Physical & Spiritual Health

Develop calm, focus, awareness and adaptability. Our Wing Chun teaches us to meet and control pressure without allowing pressure to control us—strengthening the mind for challenges both inside and outside the kwoon.

MENTAL

PHYSICAL

Develop structure, balance, coordination and efficient movement. Wing Chun teaches us to use the body intelligently rather than relying on strength alone—building practical ability, confidence and physical well-being.

SPIRITUAL

Develop calm, focus, awareness and adaptability. Wing Chun teaches us to meet pressure without allowing pressure to control us—strengthening the mind for challenges both inside and outside the kwoon.

TEND YOUR LIFE’S GARDEN

We strengthen the mental, physical and spiritual pillars so that we have the ability to properly tend the garden in which we live each day—and have the means to protect and defend it should it be threatened. Our thoughts, habits, choices and relationships all become part of that garden. When we learn to tend it with awareness and intention, we can cultivate a life of greater peace, purpose and joy—not only for ourselves, but for everyone who shares that garden with us.

THE CENTERLINE APPROACH TO LIFE

Before we can protect, control or return to center, we must first understand what is happening. Wing Chun teaches us to read pressure, position and intent before we respond. Life asks the same of us.

UNDERSTAND

Once we understand and protect our center, we learn to control it. In Wing Chun, control is not about overpowering everything around us—it is about managing position, pressure and response so that we remain balanced and effective. In life, we practice the same control over our choices, reactions and direction.

CONTROL

Once we understand what matters most, we learn to protect it. In Wing Chun, we protect our centerline because it gives access to what is most vital in our body. In life, we learn to recognize and protect what brings stability, peace, purpose and joy — without these what is life?

PROTECT

Even when pressure moves us away from center, Wing Chun teaches us to return. We do not cling rigidly to position—we adjust, recover and reestablish what gives us balance and effectiveness. In life, returning to center means recognizing when we have drifted and deliberately bringing ourselves back to the principles, habits and relationships that keep us rooted.
